4-H Youth Development
4-H is the comprehensive youth development
program of Virginia Cooperative Extension. Youth ages 5 to 18
engage in hands-on learning experiences under the guidance of
4-H agents and trained adult or teen 4-H volunteers. Youth learn
life skills through their involvement in 4-H programs. The
Portsmouth 4-H program offers programs in the following areas:

The Portsmouth 4-H Teen Club
is open for all youth ages 13-18. The club meets
from 7:00-8:00 p.m. the first Wednesday of every
month at the Portsmouth Extension Office. Club
activities include service learning projects and
social events.

Family Consumer Science
Family Consumer Science emphasizes appropriate and safe food and
nutrition choices, encourage physical activity, and improve
health literacy. The goal is to intervene early to prevent

Living Well Newsletter
Family Nutrition Program- Focuses on
limited resource adults with children teaching basic nutrition.
The program helps families and individuals by sharing nutrition
information and food related skills, encourages healthy eating
habits and increases skills to stretch food resources. Contact
